Modern Widows Club
The problem
Modern Widows Club |The Movement for Widow Care (MWC) is a nonprofit that provides compassionate support to widows, empowering them to thrive as they move from grief to growth and offering resources, communities, clubs, and tools like the Widow Empowerment Quiz. Although they serve over 13,000 widows annually, Modern Widows Club grew tired of being seen as solely a social club by potential partners and grantors. Their existing website felt outdated with clip art and a lack of compelling imagery, the typography was not accessible and did not have a clear hierarchy, and the site lacked easy and clear navigation. Not only that, but the existing site was also hosted on WordPress - and no one on the current team knew how to update the content or the plugins!
The objective
MWC needed a website that felt modern and refreshed, was accessible to all, and better reflected their wide range of services and offerings for widows - while also feeling familiar for their ladies and being easy to navigate for those widows experiencing brain fog. They also needed a site that could be maintained in-house and a design system that could easily grow as MWC expands.
The solution
To accomplish this, I built the site in Squarespace so the MWC internal team can easily keep the site up-to-date for years to come. I also used MWC’s existing brand guidelines and aimed to keep the new site close in look and feel to the old site, but with a thoughtfully planned out site map, added imagery of real widows, and clear calls-to-action on every page.
CLIENT TESTIMONIAL
I highly recommend Amanda for her exceptional approachability, professionalism, and vital organizational skills. She has a remarkable talent for harnessing creativity while developing a new brand and identity for our nonprofit, making the entire process smooth and collaborative. I look forward to referring her to others in need of her expertise.
